Matthew 7:24-25 (ESV)
[24] “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. [25] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Talk About It
Jesus tells a story about two people building houses—one on a strong rock, the other on sand. When a big storm came, only the house on the rock stood firm! Jesus is showing us that life can get tough and sometimes scary—like a storm—but if we listen to what He says and follow Him, our lives will be steady, just like that house.
Being in a family is wonderful but sometimes hard, too. We get to practice loving each other and following Jesus every day! Our families have good times and hard times, but when we build our lives on Jesus, He helps us stay strong. The best way to help your family is to know Jesus yourself and live like He taught. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect—just keep growing and trusting Jesus. Families and houses aren’t perfect, but with a strong foundation, they stand through every storm!
For Parents to Explain
Dear God, thank You for being our strong foundation. Help us listen to Jesus and follow Him, so our family can stand strong in every storm. Amen.
Family Activities
Build on the Rock Challenge
- Gather building blocks or use pillows or books to build two "houses"—one on a hard surface, one on something wobbly.
- Blow on the houses or gently bump the table to make a "storm."
- Watch which house stands strong and which falls.
- Talk together about how Jesus helps us stand strong when life is tough!
Living Like Jesus—Family Challenge
- Pick one teaching of Jesus your family will practice this week (like kindness, forgiveness, or praying together).
- Write it on a card and put it somewhere everyone can see.
- Each day, share how you saw someone in your family live out that teaching.
- At the end of the week, thank God for helping your family build on His foundation!
Family Prayer
Now let’s each ask God to help us trust Him and live like Jesus, no matter what comes this week.
